Jesus calls the first disciples

Jesus calls fishermen by the Sea of Galilee to leave their nets, follow him, and participate in announcing the kingdom of God.

discipleshipkingdomGalilee

Historical context

The Sea of Galilee supported fishing villages, local trade, and household economies. Discipleship involved a teacher and learners, but Jesus’ call also asks for a decisive reordering of work, family expectations, and public identity.

Biblical significance

The call shows that Jesus forms a community around his presence and mission. The first disciples become witnesses, learners, and eventually leaders in the movement that carries the Gospel beyond Galilee.
