The church at Antioch sends out teachers

Jewish and Gentile believers gather in Antioch, receive teaching, and are first called Christians as the church grows under the Spirit’s direction.

Historical context

Antioch was a major Syrian city where Greek, Aramaic, Roman, Jewish, and other cultures met through trade and imperial administration. A mixed community there required new patterns of fellowship, teaching, leadership, and mission.

Biblical significance

Antioch becomes a strategic center for the Gentile mission and for the church’s shared identity in Christ. The community’s fasting, prayer, and commissioning show mission as a work of the Spirit carried out through a local body.
